Giraffe numbers are on the rise!

View this map for an overview of where different species of giraffe occur in Africa. Where do giraffes occur in East Africa? Maasai giraffe are common in Tanzania and Southern Kenya. Reticulated giraffe can be spotted in Northern Kenya. The Nubian giraffe, which is critically endangered, can be found in Uganda and Kenya.

According to Giraffe Conservation Foundation, there are now more than 117,000 giraffes in the wild – an increase of almost 20% since 2015. While this is still a precariously low number, this is a very encouraging sign. Most importantly, numbers are increasing across all four species of giraffe.
