Meet Sifuni Mungure

Like many of our guides, Sifuni Mungure has a long history working in Tanzania’s tourism industry. He completed one year of tour guiding and language studies at Mount Meru College in Arusha in 1996. He then worked for a hunting safari company for 8 years. Shifting to photographic safaris in 2005, Sifuni worked as a safari guide for six years in Arusha until joining Alika Africa in 2011.

Sifuni has completed many specialized courses in first aid, client care, human adaptive behavior, flora and fauna, ornithology, astrology, safety planning and risk assessment. He also trained one of younger guides, Justin Mushi, for 18 months. Sifuni is widely respected by our team and can always be counted on to help out a fellow staff member. In addition to safari guiding, Sifuni owns an avocado farm and large chicken business - he loves talking about his businesses with guests.

Our guests comment on Sifuni’s kindness, patience and love of wildlife both big and small.

Customer Testimonials

  • The entire experience was fantastic. Our private driver, Sifuni, was incredible. He knew so many facts and had eyes like a hawk for spotting animals. He was so nice and accommodating.

  • Sifuni was very knowledgeable and dedicated. Even on the last day , a few hours before our flight he wanted to take us on a game drive because we hadnt seen a cheetah in all 7 days, and he drove around for miles until we saw a Cheetah and drove us straight to the airport. He was very knowledgeable and also very aware of wildlife and not bothering them , which was very evident on how they drove around the animals specially during the migration and crossing, which isnt something I could say for some of the other drivers/guides from other companies .

  • Upon arriving in Tanzania, we were introduced to our game driver and guide, Sifuni. I can't praise Sifuni enough—he's a remarkable person and a truly exceptional guide. He was extremely friendly and knowledgable. He could answer pretty much any question about the animals, birds, parks, people and ecosystem you could think of and when he didn't know something he was not afraid to say he didn't know and would look at his field guide and answer us later (this happened no more than twice but I truly appreciated that he didn't BS you if he didn't know something). He also had an otherworldly knack for spotting animals in the bush, ensuring we saw everything we hoped for and more! He has over 20 years of experience being a guide and his vision must be some of the best in the world. He would make comments about something a far away animal was doing that I could hardly notice using binoculars when he had nothing but his glasses! When driving past other guides or talking with staff at one of the many places we went, they would address him by name and it was clear everyone we talked to had immense respect for him. I honestly do not have a single critique for him. If we came back to Tanzania, I would request him as a guide without a second thought.

  • Once we arrived in Tanzania we had the pleasure of meeting our game driver/guide, Sufuni. I cannot say enough great things about Sufuni. He is truly an amazing person and guide. He was such a pleasure to spend 8 days with. He has a great personality and amazing guide skills. His ability to spot the animals in the bush is second to none. He made sure we saw everything we wanted to see and more! I completely believe we would not have seen all “Big 5” animals without his incredible spotting ability. Not only is he a wonderful guide in regard to bush sitting and driving, but he made our group feel safe and cared for us the whole trip. I had some anxiety going into the trip due to never previously visiting Africa. I never once felt unsafe or anxious while with Sufuni. One example - we had a flight back from Serengeti to Arusha at the end of the trip. This is where we separated from the guide. Sufuni walked us into the airport in Serengeti & made sure we were linked up to the flight personnel, made sure the flight company had all our information correct, helped us get the bags checked, and made sure we felt good about everything before he departed. This is just one example of how Sufuni went above and beyond for our service.

  • This was the most memorable trip of our life. Our guide, Sifuni, was wonderful. He encouraged us to be patient in waiting for nature to reveal itself, and he was remarkably successful in leading us to everything we could want to see. He seems to genuinely enjoy seeing the animals.

  • The trip itself exceeded even our highest expectations. We spent 9 days in at five national parks in the bush with our guide, Sifuni Amos—a 20-year veteran who made the experience a joy with his upbeat personality and deep knowledge of the animals and the landscape. He ensured that we had time to see whatever we were interested in viewing, and enabled us to encounter not only the much-desired Big Five—but an array of smaller creatures and fowl ranging from the elusive cheetah to the Secretary bird.

    Ernie - June 2023

  • Sifuni was a fantastic guide. He had many great sightings. He also took time to point out birds and teach me all the ones I didn’t know. That was very much appreciated.

  • Sifuni taught us all so much and never tired of our questions (and there were many!) and our enthusiasm for and interest in Tanzanian wildlife, culture and language. Our family has travelled to many places but never have we felt so sad to leave. Thank you Sifuni and Justin (and Alika Africa) for a truly amazing week.
